Come In. It’s Already Warm.
The keeper’s book
A large hardcover for whoever keeps your house: the one with the lamp on before you ask, the coffee made before you are up. Hand-drawn topographic maps of the country around the house, seventeen plates, the views as they stood, and the recipes the house actually serves. Written at the front desk of an inn in Frisco, Colorado, about the one who saw to the warmth before anyone got here.
- The maps. Topographic plates drawn by hand in the old survey manner: Mount Royal, Rainbow Lake, and the country around the house, rising line by line.
- Seventeen plates. The mountains and the rooms in the maps’ own hand, from the gate to the last light.
- The views. The places as they stood before: the Tenmile Range, Mount Royal, Emigrant, the reservoir, the path.
- The recipes. What the house actually serves, written to be cooked, not admired.
- The keeper. Every page belongs to the one who keeps a house so well you only notice the warmth. This is a book about him.
